My parents are not at all DIY people. Don't get me wrong, they try, but fail miserably. My mom has very little design sense (because she likes something in every single style) and my dad starts something but never finishes it (kind of how my bathroom is right now). Well my mom was sick of her bathroom and wanted it painted, but couldn't decide what to do.
The room has white and cranberry tiles, she wanted to paint it lavender or lilac. I said no. I then suggest going with blue...the blue in my bedroom to be precise: Behr Liberty (I had an extra quart in the basement).
My parents and sister have headed to Philly for a couple of days, so I decided to surprise my parents and have the room done before they get back.
Here's the befores:
Here's the after:
I had a heck of a time painting the walls. They are horrible. This room was wallpapered when I was a kid, and when I was about 15 my parents ripped it out and put the tile up...but the wall was never re-sheetrocked, so the tile grout and glue goes above the tile...which results in a not smooth edge.
Tomorrow I'm going to refinish their medicine cabinet and closet door. Both are getting spray painted white, as well as the towel rack. Like us, my parents are on a budget and don't have thousands of dollars to update their bathroom...so we'll use what we got and just spruce it up. I'm leaving the sink base the way it is but getting some pulls for the doors. I think if I were to paint it white it would make the room too white.
As for decor: A battenburg lace valance is going on the window, a new bathroom light is being installed, new hardware on the medicine cabinet, and a shelf is getting installed above the toilet to put a candle and a tin star on. We're going with an American theme in here.
