Two Month Well Baby Visits

This morning we had H, J, and E's well-baby visits; which, they're doing well! Everyone is gaining above what the doctor wanted to see. All 3 do have slight heart murmurs, but the doctor didn't think they were anything crucial. They'll be checked again next time (in 2 months) and then if we want they'll schedule an appointment at the cardio clinic in June.

We did have questions:

Henry has this horrible snuffly nose sound, but there isn't much that can be done. His sinuses have simply not acclimated to life outside of the womb. The doctor said it could be a few months before they cleared up. There isn't any snot or anything, just inflammation.

James has had terrible diaper rash. He had it when he was in the NICU, but it just became progressively worse. We tried everything: no diapers, cloth diapers, des.itin, naked baby etc etc, but nothing was helping. It was getting worse over the past week with his skin actually peeling a bit (like a bad sunburn). Surprise! Surprise! He has a yeast infection. He's been put on a topical lotion to help deal with that.

Ellie had her questions too; namely the shape of her head. The right side of her head is rather flat. We've been trying to keep her from laying on that side, but it hasn't helped too much. The doctor felt that it was probably from being smooshed in-utero (which makes sense because of which side it is and where she was in my tummy). He felt that as she grows it will fix itself. We also found out that she has thrush: Yay! Yesterday I was noticing that her mouth was awfully white, then during her bath today I noticed it was REALLY white. So she's on a med now too to help deal with that.

A few concerns and issues, but nothing to really be worried about. We have 3 healthy, thriving and growing babies!

Henry weighed in at 8lbs 3.5 oz (adjusted 50-75 percentile), James is 8lbs 8oz (adjusted 90 percentile), and Ellie is 7lbs 5 oz (adjusted 25-50 percentile).

Yay! So glad everyone is doing so well, other than the thrush, etc.

Can't believe it's already been two months. So sorry to hear about the thrush and yeast infection, but sounds like you've got it under control now. I can't remember if you are still nursing, but if so, be sure to take care of you, too, on the thrush.

Yeast... my mortal enemy. I hate that stuff. It can be VERY persistent. We had to feed Michael probiotics and yogurt for months to clear it out of his mouth and then finally the only thing that worked was the gentian violet, but I think the breastfeeding complicated it slightly because it we kept giving it back to each other.

For James' diaper rash, remember not to use cornstarch powder... it will just feed it. You can use OTC antifungals if you run out of the prescription stuff too. Make sure to dry off those bums with a dry wipe before putting diapers back on and that will do a lot to help prevent reoccurance.

I've also heard good things about burned (browned) flour for rashes (not sure about yeast specifically). Just slowly brown it on the stove and put it in a shaker to dust on.

Michael head was kinda flat on one side. It rounded out well as he grew. I bet Elanor will too.

I'm so glad that everyone is doing well! Do you feel like you won the lottery some days?
