Avelyn Margaret's Christening

I know this post has been a long time coming. I apologize. I couldn't really take pictures during her Christening, so I was at the mercy of others as to when I could post pictures.

The day was surprisingly nice. They had been calling for rain, but it cleared up on Sunday. It was cold and windy, but not so much that you couldn't be outside. We did all of the food ourselves, well my dad and I. I couldn't have done it without him. He made 2 full trays of ziti and 2 full trays of eggplant parmigiana. We also had a cold cut platter from the store, green salad, fruit salad, and rolls. Of course, no one thinks to ever take pictures of the food or the room (at least not in my family...I would've but was a bit preoccupied). My MIL and her sister decorated the room at church (where my shower was) and I put bouquets of gerbera daisies and irises on the table.

This was the cake. It was 4 layers (2 chocolate and 2 white) with icing and raspberry filling between the layers, and butter cream icing on the cake. It was so, so yummy. We ended up having about 1/2 of it left after feeding 60 people. Yea, when we party we never run out of food. I weighed the cake: 25 lbs...that's right two-five pounds.

Church was great and Avelyn was so agreeable. She slept through the most of it and then woke up just in time for her part. She only let a bit of a squeak when she was actually baptized. I think it had more to do with her not liking how she was held. I dump water on her head during bath time and she laughs.

Of course I feel like I spent absolutely no time with any of the people that came all the way here on a Sunday for her Christening. I guess that's what happens when you spend the time running with a 5 month old and trying to feed 60 people. Fortunately my godmother and her family stayed a bit later in the day, so I did get to see them.

At the end of the day Matt and I were exhausted, but we pulled it off! The one thing that stuck out the most in my mind was standing up there at the baptismal font and thinking about how long I've waited for that moment....to have my child baptized and all of our family there welcoming her.

There were a lot of pictures we didn't get, like any with Matt's side of the family. There was just too much going on. I actually had people upset with me because they didn't get to take pictures with us...which of course made me feel bad. I did get her all gussied up again later in the week to do "formal" Christening shots. Here's a few...the first is the one we used on her thank you cards.

Here's the link to all of the pictures, as well as the video of her Christening
(it's only about 8 minutes).
