Pertusis. When they gave him his tetanus shot on Tuesday, they noticed that he hadn't had a Pertusis shot, so they gave him that too. Matt mentioned it to his mom yesterday (after his reaction episode) and she told him that he never got it because his brother and sister (1 older, 1 younger) had seizures from it.
I asked him how many other medical things do we not know (i.e. mumps, pertusis shot): We always seem to find these things out after the fact, and none of them have been little things. Hopefully this is the last "surprise" and there are no further medical mysteries in Matt's past.

Eek! That's so scary! Hope he continues to recover without further problems. And perhaps you both need to sit down with Matt's folks and get a very detailed medical history from them. Ply them with cookies or beer or whatever will make them happy and then go through every conceivable thing you can think of! Frustrating that you always seem to be finding out after the fact, though.
Wow! That's incredible! Thank goodness that he didn't have seizures... I think that Anna is right about sitting his parents down to make sure that you learn what else could be like this. Goodness -- I hope that his Mom realized that this is something you can't keep from someone! Hope he's doing better!
I'm glad he's alright, but eshk! that is scary. I am allergic to tetanus (I actually get lock jaw).
Hopefully there will be no more suprises.
That's kind of messed up that they gave him an extra shot without checking with you all first. What if he had a more severe reaction? I'm glad he's doing better though.
That is outrageous that they haven't filled him in on this stuff. You should totally debrief them. My goodness, what would you have done if he started having seizures? That's terrible that they didn't tell him!
What I find amazing is that he's been going to the same doctor since he was a kid and they don't have it on file somewhere, that the shot wasn't given because of reactions in siblings.
I think after Wednesday's episode I want him to really sit down with his mom and discuss his medical history...not because we have to worry about it with this kid (we don't), but just for his sake if there are other things we need to be aware of.
